Eugene NAACP leader advocates stripping name of Matthew Deady from University of Oregon building: Eugene-Springfield NAACP President Eric Richardson weighed in this week in favor of removing Matthew Deady’s name from the oldest building on the University of Oregon campus. Richardson said it’s right that the UO Board of Trustees this month stripped Frederic Dunn’s name from a dormitory — and he’s hoping the same will ­happen with Deady. “Not so much as a rebuke to these two noteworthy men, but as an indictment of the legacy and ongoing reality of white supremacy,” he wrote in a letter to the trustees.
