Schill’s call: Dunn’s name should be stripped from campus; Deady’s name needs more consideration: The name of historic faculty member Frederic Dunn should be stripped immediately from a dormitory on the University of Oregon campus because of his leadership in the Eugene chapter of the Ku Klux Klan, “one of the most despicable organizations in American history,” UO President Michael Schill decided Thursday. But the case for stripping the name of UO founder Matthew Deady from the oldest building on campus is more controversial and less clear, and Schill decided to put off his decision on Deady Hall. Some alumni are adamant that Deady’s name remain.
