Local NAACP chapter weighs in on verdict in federal verdict in police-force case: Not surprised, definitely disappointed. That’s the Eugene-Springfield NAACP branch’s take on a federal jury verdict returned Tuesday that found a Eugene woman had failed to prove police used excessive force against her and her adult son during an incident at her home in July 2015. The NAACP on Friday issued a news release stating in part that the civil rights case brought by Ayisha Elliott and her son — both of whom are black — represents “a textbook example of the vulnerabilities to police violence experienced not only by black Americans, but also by those who suffer from psychological disabilities.”
