CAIR Calls for Hate Crime Probes of Racist Graffiti in Virginia and Vermont
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/29/20) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called for hate crime investigations of racist graffiti incidents in Virginia and Vermont.
Racist graffiti was sprayed on the back-brick wall of a Chesterfield County, Va., 7-Eleven. A firebomb was also thrown onto the roof leaving a charred spot on the roof. A bottle filled with an accelerant was also found near the back fence.

In North Bennington, Vt., police are seeking information regarding racist graffiti spray-painted in public areas. The graffiti reportedly contained language that targets African-Americans and “offensive, sexually explicit illustrations.”

“We urge local officials to treat all incidents targeting minority communities as possible hate crimes and to investigate accordingly,” said CAIR National Communications Coordinator Ayan Ajeen. “These types of hate incidents are unfortunately increasing nationwide.”
Yesterday, CAIR call for an expanded hate crime probe of racist graffiti at the University of Richmond in Virginia after learning of two additional cases in which students were targeted for their national origin.
