CAIR Welcomes Arrest of Suspect in South Carolina Mosque Vandalism
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/13/20) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the arrest of a suspect who allegedly vandalized a South Carolina mosque.
Hailey Riddle, 18, was charged with malicious injury to a place of worship. Her bond hearing is set for today.

“We welcome the arrest of this suspect and thank police for their swift and professional actions,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We hope this arrest will help determine a motive for the vandalism.”
He noted that South Carolina does not have hate crime legislation, but Charleston passed a hate intimidation ordinance in 2018.
CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president.
