It’s time that President Biden recognized whistleblowers, their contributions, and their storied history at the national level. We are urging him to sign an Executive Order mandating that all federal agencies recognize July 30th as National Whistleblower Day and that they take steps to inform their employees of their rights to blow the whistle, in addition to the contributions of past whistleblowers.
This is a grassroots campaign led by and for whistleblowers. Jane Turner leads the campaign along with Bunny Greenhouse, Fred Whitehurst, Aaron Westrick, and Sherron Watkins.
Breaking news: Senator Chuck Grassley has called upon President Biden to honor whistleblowers with a Rose Garden ceremony on National Whistleblower Day
Why It's Important
Honor our History – Protecting whistleblowers is in our country’s DNA. The first whistleblower law was signed by the Continental Congress in 1778. Since then, whistleblowers have become a pillar of keeping our democracy healthy. This campaign is being launched on March 2nd to commemorate the 160th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the False Claims Act, which remains one of the strongest whistleblower laws in the country.
Change the Culture – We can only root out fraud, corruption, and waste by addressing the culture that silences those trying to speak the truth. This executive order will require every government agency to highlight the tools and protections at every employees’ disposal to blow the whistle. It will also require every agency to acknowledge past whistleblowers.
Demand Justice and Respect – Whistleblowers have sacrificed their careers, health, and safety while exposing waste and returning billions of dollars to the U.S. Government. It’s past time that they are recognized.

Jane Turner
"We have to ensure that whistleblowers are able to speak without fear of retaliation or loss of career, and that necessitates a culture change. President Biden must send a powerful message concerning whistleblowers, whom he has already noted are critical in the fight against corruption and who are essential for national security. This can be done by making National Whistleblower Day permanent through a Presidential Directive. It is time for whistleblowers to receive the justice and recognition they deserve.”
